Chamber News by Artis Stoebener, Executive Director This week's veteran member, Eagan's Furniture, is certainly a "veteran" member, having existed for multiple generations. It's now operating under the second generation of the Eagan family. Roy and Gretchen Eagan were the founders in 1972 and remain involved with the business when they're not traveling the world. After spending his childhood working at Eagan's Furniture, Roy E. Eagan and with his wife, Jacqueline Filloon Eagan, bought the business in 2005. Founding father Roy does come by daily to visit when he is in town and he also helps out by coming in when Roy E. and Jacqueline take vacations. This cooperative effort which helps Roy E. and Jacqueline out, gives Roy a chance to visit with old friends and helps remind him of why he loves retirement. Established 36 years ago, Eagan's Furniture was located downtown where McCorkle's Eatery and Pub are now. This site also once housed Kimes Hardware. Eagan's then moved to south Walnut (Hunan Chinese Restaurant) and the former car agency across from Cameron Co-Op. In 2001, Eagan's Furniture really expanded their offerings, floor space, and parking when they moved into their current location at 2301 N. Walnut in the Industrial Park. It's an impressive exterior, but like an egg, the best part is inside. Simply put, they carry virtually everything you might want for your home. They stock 3 brands of clocks, every type of dining room or living room furniture, area rugs, and all types of décor. They have items you won't find any place else, like a fantastic lighthouse rug that looks as if it were designed made for our house at Lake Viking. Eagan's can be reached at 816-632-2583. Their operating hours are incredible, 9-6 M-Saturday. Eagan's Furniture also offers extended special hours for special promotions. They deservedly have Sunday as a day of much needed rest as well as Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Eagan's is very much a full-service business offering delivery service area from Platte City/Liberty to Bethany as well as St. Joe/Savannah to Chillicothe. Does the gas crunch have you shopping on line before an actual visit? Eagan's Furniture realizes that virtual visits are a fact of life and have an outstanding website that's easy to remember www.eagansfurniture.com. With one click, you can view much of stock on line. Of course, you want to visit in person to really get the full impact of the completeness of their inventory. If they don't have what you want in stock, they usually can find something that will fill the bill. The Eagan family has long had a major impact on the Cameron community. Roy served on the City Council and served as Mayor. The family is very active in the Community of Christ Church. Camp Quality (for children w/cancer) would not exist in its present form w/o the Eagan's. Roy organized the Camp Quality Radio-thon and has probably fried an ocean of fish for the Fish Fry fundraiser over the years. Roy's woodcarving skills always delighted campers. Like many of the Chamber business, Eagan's shares a strong commitment to give back to the community that makes their success possible. Please welcome our newest member, Creative Prints, which offers a wide variety of personalized keepsakes featuring photos, logos, or hand drawn designs.
