Chamber News by Artis Stoebener, Executive Director Instead of focusing on individual members, I'll recognize the efforts of the entire Chamber of Commerce, all 160+ of them, the City of Cameron and the July 4th celebration. The July 4th weekend events were awesome. BBQ Contest in McCorkle Park this year was the biggest yet thanks to the efforts of Phil Lammers. The 4th Annual Chamber Car Show had over 150 entries due to the efforts of Ed & Reta Riley of Riley Construction & Red X Motors. Probably another 25 didn't make it due to rain south of Kearney. An excellent Talent Show led by Tri Arts' Barbara Drager was enjoyed by all as was the outstanding Quilt Show organized by Mary Workman and sponsored by Wal-Mart & Country Expressions Quilt Shoppe sponsors, Sertoma Breakfast, Motorcycle Show, and all the performances by the bands. The media, KKWK, Cameron Newspapers, and KMZU did a great job publicizing the events as did the awesome flyers and trifolds that Zack Workman designed, copied, and distributed. The City of Cameron and the Cameron Police Department were outstanding. Their preparation was incredible and made all events as safe and organized as possible. We appreciate the CERTS volunteers during the parade and fireworks. The Chamber hired off duty officers on Friday, Saturday, & Tuesday nights to ensure events that every family could enjoy. All those who sponsored and donated to the July 4th have our heartfelt thanks, especially the City of Cameron who matched our donations. Special recognition goes to Mike O'Donnell who has spent countless hours as treasurer making certain that every dime is documented and payments are ready. He also set up, took down, and stored all the components of the Chamber Sound system for all 4 days of the event. This July 4th committee is a small group led by Zack Workman's tireless efforts whose members practically live downtown from first light to nearly midnight for 3 full days and for 8+ hours on July 3. Hopefully you attended many of the events and saw what a dedicated group can accomplish. Community contributions of time and the ever popular money make it all possible. Tuesday's events included the annual Cameron Veterinary Clinic Pet Show and Jeff Lux Band. Wednesday there was Rotary Breakfast, CRMC 4 mile run & Fun Run, Bank Midwest's Baby Show, Farmers State Bank Prince & Princess, Lions Little Mr. & Miss, and Horizon State Bank's Parent Child Look Alike. At 1:00, Lions Parade, 2:30 Pedal Tractor Pull (Farm Bureau's David Broermann sponsored, assisted by CHS Football players), City Band, Veterans Recognition at CHS hillside, Old Town Jamboree, and FIREWORKS! The wonderful veterans' recognition ceremony gives all of us a moment to reflect on the many individuals who have kept this country independent. It is a joy to recognize our veterans with a commemorative hat pin. These business and individuals made those pins possible: Bank Midwest, Vern Boswell, Cameron Accounting, Cameron Newspapers, CRMC, Davidson Real Estate, The Drug Store, Karen Chaney Agency, Deb Hahn, Karen Hamlet, Farmers State Bank, Ann & Dave Fletchall, KMRN/KKWK, King Barber Shop, Larry McCord, Jr,. Ocker Ins., R.A.M.S. Const., Red X Motors, Randall Relford, Weldon Wilhoit, Bruce Witt, Zack Workman, and Doug Wyckoff. Chamber is pleased to announce another new Chamber member, First Baptist Church of Cameron located at 202 W. Ford. They can be reached at 632-7251. Darla Walker will be their Chamber representative.
