Chamber News by Artis Stoebener, Executive Director This week's column recognizes another new member, Domino's Pizza. Jami Proctor and crew are the type of new businesses you just know are going to be successful. Domino's Pizza arranged to join the Chamber even before they opened for business last January. Domino's is conveniently located at 1311 N. Walnut or you can call 632-4440 and they'll gladly deliver. After all, their slogan is "Get the door! It's Domino's." Domino's is recognized as the world's leader in pizza delivery. Not surprising, considering Domino's has 7,000 stores, with 2000 being outside the U.S. Tom Monaghan bought Dominick's Pizza in Ann Arbor, MI in 1960, changing the name to Domino's. They opened their 1000th store in 1995. In 1997, Domino's opened 7 stores in one day on five continents! In 2003, Domino's became the official pizza of NASCAR! They're even trying out ordering online in some locations. Domino's manager says Cameron is unique with about 50% are picked up. Domino's flexibility lets you order, run errands, and then pick up your pizza. Being able to pick up a movie nearby probably factors in as well Much of Domino's success is due to their involvement in their communities. Domino's believes that an essential component of corporate responsibility is to provide support to charitable organizations that benefit the communities where our employees and customers work and live. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Domino's is committed to supporting initiatives and causes in its hometown while also participating in national programs that align with their vision, guiding principles and strategic focus. Domino's Pizza has exceptional people on a mission to be the best pizza delivery in the world. Consider their Guiding Principles: "1) Demand integrity, 2) Our people come first. 3) Take great care of our customers, 4) Make great pizza every day, and 5) Operate with smart hustle and positive energy." You see Domino's listed as contributors to so many things. The Domino's "Noid" was a big hit in the 2006 Chamber Christmas parade. They offer excellent fund raisers for education as well. One of the most touching efforts by Domino's came on 9/11 when Domino's provided more than 12,000 pizzas to relief workers at ground zero in NYC as well as in Washington, D.C. They also provided matching funds amounting to $350,000 to the Red Cross for disaster relief. Domino's cares for their 140,000 employees as well. In 1986, a group of franchisees formed The Partners Foundation, a non-profit organization established to assist team members in time of special need or tragedy as a result of natural disasters, unexpected afflictions, on-the-job accidents and other emergencies. Since its inception, The Partners Foundation has helped thousands of Domino's Pizza team members and their families with financial, emotional, intermediary and advisory assistance. Domino offers a wide variety of pizzas and offer many specials. They're open every evening and for lunch on weekends. Call 632-4440.
