Chamber News by Artis Stoebener, Executive Director This weeks' veteran member, Horizon State Bank, truly has deep roots, not only in Cameron, but in the surrounding area. Beginning life in neighboring Osborn in 1883 as the Bank of Osborn, it became Horizon State Bank in 1983 when the new bank was constructed at 814 N. Walnut. Carroll and Patricia Brand sold Horizon State Bank to Roger & Rita Durant in 1995. Horizon State Bank is beautifully designed and decorated in soothing colors with many well-trained employees. There's an excellent sense of security with private offices conveniently located on both levels. Many of Horizon's staff has been there since opening day. Horizon State Bank is very involved with the Cameron community. Roger Durant has been one of the major supporters of the Chamber recognition of veterans through their commemorative hat pins since its inception. Roger serves on the Veterans Assistance League Board who raises funds for the Cameron Veterans Home. He works with the Cameron Police Department and Fire Department and recently completed CERTS (Citizens Emergency Response Team) training. He and Rita are members of the Cameron United Methodist Church, where Rita serves on finance committee and Martha Circle. She is also an active member of the Xi Epsilon Gamma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi which excels in community involvement. Horizon State Bank is truly a family business. Roger is President and CEO. Rita serves as one of the vice-presidents with daughter Kyllie working as administrative assistant. Horizon State Bank is one of the Chamber's most valued members. Their vice-president, Ann Fletchall, serves as Horizon's Chamber representative. Ann is one of the Chamber's pivotal components. Ann is serving her first year as Chamber president, having served as vice president, secretary and Board member at two years each. After her two years as president, she'll serve two more as past president. Ann is involved with all aspects of the Chamber from Banquet to membership to July 4th celebration to Christmas Parade & Lighting Ceremony. Encouraging employees to take that level of involvement with the community is truly outstanding. Horizon State Bank has also sponsored the Parent-Child Look Alike Contest on July 4th for many years. Horizon State Bank offers all the services one might expect from a bank: free checking, ATM services, 24 hour deposits, NOW, Money Market and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, traveler's checks, home, life, and auto insurance, debit cards, and 30 year fixed rate loans with a no points or application fee. That sounds like they've covered everything, but Horizon State Bank also offers online banking, 24 hour toll free account information services, safe deposit boxes, savings bonds, and annuities. In addition, Horizon State Bank offers virtually every type of loan including home, agricultural, consumer, and commercial, including SBA loans. You'll find lots of parking as well as a convenient drive-through. The staff is glad to answer any banking questions Just call 632-7000 for more information.
