Animal Control’s first priority is to ensure public safety. This is done by containing animals that are wandering throughout the City. Picking up stray animals not only avoids the chance for harm to come to a citizen’s pet but it also decreases the chance that someone will get injured by that animal.
Animal Control also:
- Steps in when necessary to protect abused and neglected animals
- Is involved whenever an animal bite has occurred by making sure the proper steps are followed to quarantine the animal for the safety of the bite victim and the general public
- Enforces City of Cameron Codes pertaining to animals and animal welfare
Shelter Information
According to State laws, we must keep an animal for five days and a Saturday. After which, the animal becomes the property of the City of Cameron. Cameron works closely with
Wayside Waifs for adoption of City animals. All adoptable dogs are transported there for adoption.
